(ANSYS APDL STRUCTURAL) Problem on Plane stress with thickness (Surface plane/ Surface plate).



Preference > structural > ok

Pre-processor >element type > add/edit/delete > add > solid > quad 4 node 182 > ok > close.

Pre - processor > material properties> material models > structural > linear > elastic >  isotropic > EX = 2.1E5 & PRXY = 0.30 > ok > materials > exit.

Pre - processor > modeling > create > key points > (1,2,3,4,5,6) on working plane by clicking on the work plane.

NOTE: Create the working plane by going into the work plane menu in the utility menu bar. (work plane > WP settings > select (Cartesian,  Grid) and give (snap increment = 1, spacing = 1, minimum = 10, maximum = -10) > ok.

NOTE: To get the display of the work plane (Utility tool bar > work plane > display work plane.

Pre - processor > modeling > create > lines > lines > straight lines > select the key points in the order
( 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-1).

Pre - processor > modeling > create > lines > lines fillet  > select  inner (L) shape links and give radius = 1 > apply >  out (L) shape links with radius = 2 > ok

Pre - processor > modeling > create > area > arbitrary > by lines (select all lines including fillets) > ok.

Pre - processor > modeling > create > area > circles > solid circles > specify centre (as shown in the diagram) > radius = 0.5 > ok.

Pre - processor > modeling > operate > Booleans > subtract > area > select two objects (i.e. (L) shape and also the solid circle in the (L) shape > ok > now select the solid circle > ok.

Pre - processor > meshing > mesh tool > size control > in global click "set"  > NDIV (number of element divisions) = 100 > ok > select mesh > select the area you want to mesh > ok.

Pre - processor > loads > define Pre - processor > loads > apply > structural > displacement > on lines > select the lines of the circle > ok.

Pre - processor > loads > define Pre - processor > loads > apply > structural > force/moment > on nodes > select the nodes as shown in the figure (while selecting convert the selecting method to box selection instead of single selection) > ok > direction of force is  FY = -100.

Solution > solve > current LS > ok > yes > close.

General post processor > plot results > deformed shape > deformed + un- deformed shape > ok.

General post processor > plot results > contour plot > nodal solution > stress > von mises stress > ok.

Pre processor > element type > add/edit/delete > options > element behaviour (K3) > plane stress with thickness > ok.

Pre processor > Pre - processor > real constants> add/edit/delete > add > ok > THK = 10 > ok > close.

NOTE: To see the thickness (plot ctrls in the utility menu bar > style > size & shape > display of element (ON).

Solution > solve > current LS > ok > yes > close.

(ANSYS APDL THERMAL) Composite Slab

A composite slab consists of one layer of brick 500 mm thickness and two layers of insulation. The inner layer of insulation is 100 mm thickness and outer layer is 60 mm thickness. The thermal conductivity of the brick, inner and outer layer are 15 w/mk, 0.12 w/mk and 0.082 w/mk respectively. The brick side is exposed to gases at 800 c and the outer insulation is exposed to ambient air at 30 c, The brick side and air side heat transfer co-efficient are 300 w/m2k and 150 w/m2k. Find the heat transfer through this composite slab and inter face temperature. Preference > thermal > ok.
